House after house, brightly adorned with flashing lights. Comfortable warm fires greeting friends who come to celebrate at others’ houses the day before christmas. Snow falls gently outside as little kids shout with glee, bundled in their puffy coats. Laughing, talking, throwing snowballs.
And then there’s us.
All of our 1st floor carpets have been dragged out and shoved into our garage, and our house is a mess. Most of our furniture is also either in the garage or positioned awkwardly in the edges of places such as my room, (for those of you that don’t know, we are touching up our house a bit while we are gone) making our house especially unappealing. No lights are up, and all gifts have already been received: I picked out most of mine at REI a while ago.
And now we are almost ready to go on the longest christmas vacation of our lives.

-Our trip bags and gear separated into different lanes
A couple days ago we video-chatted with a guy who is coordinating our home stay in Buenos Aires, and it turns out that he might be able to get us into a family of five, all of whom are musicians.
We’ve also been talking to the head of the Malayaka House, and we are very excited to be almost en route to Entebbe, which is our first stop.
Things are finally beginning to click.
